Leading the nominations this year are Masicka and Shenseea, who each earned an impressive seven nominations.

Trailing behind them are Patrice Roberts and Kes, both of whom secured six nominations for their outstanding contributions to Soca and Caribbean Fusion. Dancehall legend Vybz Kartel, along with groundbreaking artists Nailah Blackman, Chronic Law, and Kranium, each earned five nominations.

Additionally, Bunji Garlin, Romain Virgo, and Lila Iké are all up for four nominations each, solidifying their continued global influence.

Claudia Sandz is an honors graduate of Centennial College’s Communications and Media Fundamentals program and Humber College’s Radio Broadcasting program. She has co-hosted the live-streamed podcast Gringo Latino Talks, written blogs for popular Canadian Latin brand Barrio at TorontoLatino.com, and assisted Friday Ricky Dread on the WeLoveHipHop Network.

Veracia Ankrah, aka “Vee Aye,” is a music and culture journalist based in Vaughan, just outside Toronto. A self-described walking contradiction, she’s a womanist and hip-hop enthusiast who embodies the spirit of Lauryn Hill, Living Single’s Maxine Shaw, and Grey’s Anatomy’s Cristina Yang.

A McMaster University graduate with an Honours Bachelor’s in Communications and Cultural Studies, Vee Aye has contributed to notable outlets like Complex Canada, Pitchfork, Exclaim!, Hot New Hip Hop, and Okayplayer.

DJ Mel Boogie

Hailing from Toronto, DJ MelBoogie is one of Canada’s most renowned female DJs, with a career spanning over 30 years. Known for her contributions to community and music organizations, she made history as the DJ for the 2023 JUNO Awards’ tribute to 50 years of hip-hop, sharing the stage with Canadian icons like Kardinal Offishall, Michie Mee, and Choclair in a performance watched by 2.2 million viewers nationwide.

As chair of the JUNO Rap Advisory Board, MelBoogie has worked to amplify women’s voices in the industry. She also co-founded the Black Music Brunch with Maestro Fresh Wes, an annual event celebrating contributors to Black music in Canada. DJ Baby Yu is a global force in the music industry, blending his passion for music with a commitment to inspiring others. Originally from Toronto and now based in Los Angeles, Baby Yu is renowned for his live blends and mixes that energize audiences worldwide.
